John Regala’s liver stable, but actor suffers from severe gout, knee pain, says Nadia Montenegro
Nadia Montenegro revealed that John Regala’s liver is now stable, days after the latter was brought to the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI) due to health issues.
Regala previously disclosed that he is suffering from liver cirrhosis. According to the American Liver Foundation, cirrhosis is “the scarring of the liver – hard scar tissue replaces soft healthy tissue.”
“Severe gout is also one of John’s problems right now,” she said in an Instagram post Friday, Aug. 7.
Montenegro shared that he has undergone a test for his knee. She explained that medical professionals performed arthrocentesis on Regala to see if his right knee is infected or not. The said procedure used a needle to draw fluid from his knee.
“If test results show that his knee is not infected, John can receive steroids for joint pain,” Montenegro said.

A doctor observed that though Regala has slurred speech due to a previous stroke and has bilateral knee pain, he has a fair appetite. The actor also has no fever, cough, difficulty with breathing, abdominal pain and jaundice, or yellow coloring of the skin, as of Aug. 7.
“Presently, we are awaiting remaining tests from the fluid taken from John’s knee to determine if it is safe to administer steroids,” Montenegro reiterated.
Montenegro is now waiting for other updates and if Regala has to undergo more tests. She then appealed to her followers to continue praying for Regala’s recovery.
Montenegro assured that she would keep everyone updated on Regala’s health and thanked those who donated to help him get better. Montenegro, actor Chuckie Dreyfus and veteran entertainment writer Aster Amoyo have set up a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the expenses for Regala’s recovery.
