Angel Locsin reminded the government that COVID-19 — not health workers — is the enemy after President Rodrigo Duterte criticized them for publicly speaking about their plight.
“Nung una, UP ang kalaban… Ngayon naman health workers (At first, UP was the enemy… Now, health workers),” the actress said on her Instagram Stories earlier today, Aug. 3.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque congratulated the Philippines on June 30 for “beating” the prediction of researchers from the University of the Philippines that the country would have 40,000 COVID-19 cases by the end of June.
Locsin then pointed out that the health workers need support instead of terror.
“[COVID-19] po ang kalaban. Hindi ang mamamayan (COVID-19 is the enemy. Not the people),” she added.
Prior to speaking up for the frontliners, she also expressed her gratitude for them in an earlier post on her Instagram Stories.
“Patawad kung minsan ay pasaway. Ngunit nais iparating, kakampi [n’yo] kami, health workers,” Locsin said.

She also assured more caution amid the pandemic as not to add to the burden of the frontliners.
“[‘Wag] sanang panghinaan ang inyong loob,” she appealed to them. “Mahal namin kayo. [Naka-suporta] kami sa inyo.”
(Please do not lose faith. We love you. We support you.)
“Kailangan namin kayo. Kayong mga bayani sa giyerang ito,” she added. “Maraming salamat sa sakripisyo para sa amin.”
(We need you. You are the heroes in this war. Many thanks for the sacrifices for us.)
The local medical community proposed a two-week reimposition of a strict lockdown in Metro Manila amid an increase of COVID-19 cases nationwide. They suggested that the time be used to “refine our pandemic control strategies.”
Following the urging of over 60 medical societies, Duterte last night approved the return of the Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal and Bulacan to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from Aug. 4 to 18.
The Department of Health reported 3,226 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the country’s total to 106,330. NVG
