As COVID-19 continues to take lives of hundreds of people in the country and around the globe, actor Jason Abalos questioned if now is the right time to be making jokes about the virus.
Abalos reacted to reporter Joseph Morong’s post in which Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque clarified that President Rodrigo Duterte was merely joking about his statement to use gasoline as disinfectant for face masks to prevent contracting coronavirus.
“Joke talaga [‘to] sila (They really are a joke)! [face palm emoji],” Abalos said via Twitter yesterday.
“Namatay ang kaibigan kong pediatric surgeon dahil sa [COVID], tapos may panahon pa kayong mag joke?” Abalos said in another tweet.
(My pediatrician surgeon friend died due to COVID-19 and you still have the time to make jokes?)
Abalos then expressed his disappointment over whom he voted for. “Pagbabago ang ginusto ko [nung] binoto kita hindi panggag*go!”

Last April, the actor mourned the death of his dear friend Dr. Leandro L. Resurreccion III, a pediatric transplant surgeon at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center. After his friend succumbed to COVID-19, the grieving actor appealed to government officials to increase their efforts to protect frontliners.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country as of yesterday, July 23, has swelled to 74,390, after the Department of Health (DOH) reported additional 2,220 cases in the country. The deaths caused by the disease have reached 1,871. /ra
