Actor Wendell Ramos is encouraging people to train and become firefighters as well so they can help citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ramos, who became a firefighter only last month, wants others to add firefighting to their bucket lists this quarantine, he said in an interview with “Unang Hirit” yesterday, July 13.
“To be honest po, hindi ko po talaga ginawa ‘to para, alam niyo ‘yun, mapag-usapan lang po… I’m doing this to encourage lang po,” he said. (To be honest, I did not do this just to be talked about… I’m doing this to encourage others.)
He added that while people have found new hobbies in cooking and doing TikTok videos during lockdown, he wishes others to try out being a firefighter as well, not only to put out fires but alsoto help maintain cleanliness, a significant factor in fighting the pandemic.
“Ang pagbubumbero kasi hindi lang sa pagpatay ng apoy and hindi lang ho sa pag-rescue ‘no, pero ‘yung paglilinis, which is ‘yun ‘yung very important sa panahon po ngayon,” he noted. “Paglilinis ng kalsada, pagsu-supply po ng tubig, ‘yun po ‘yung maganda ngayon.”
(Firefighting is not only about putting out fires and rescuing. It also entails cleaning, which is very important in these times. Cleaning the streets and giving water supply are especially appropriate these days.)
“Kaya sa tingin ko po, itong nagawa kong ‘to ay talagang tamang-tama lang po at hilig ko rin ho talaga simula nung bata ako eh,” Ramos added. (So for me, I think what I did is very appropriate and this is something I have really wanted since I was a child.)
Ramos became a certified firefighter after undergoing training with Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas (ABP), a non-government organization “which aims to unite and provide latest information/updates to firefighter groups in the Philippines.”
Ramos currently stars alongside actresses Katrina Halili and Aiko Melendez in the GMA 7 television drama “Prima Donnas”. JB
