‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’
Should OPM classics be revived? Not if Proficient Songstress (PS) can have it her way.
During a get-together to celebrate one of PS’ milestones, a nosy reporter asked her what she thought of Groundbreaking Singer’s (GS) cover of her hit song.
Alas, the relevant question seemed to have struck a raw nerve. Yes, the revival was also a hit with music aficionados, but it’s a version that has more “birit” than reverence to the original tune.
When PS finally gained her composure, she quipped without batting an eyelash, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Lagot!
TOP OF THE TABLOIDS
This week’s top show biz news from the tabloids (and why we are moved, if we are moved):
•Sharon Cuneta may hugot sa nanglait kay Frankie Pangilinan: Disente ang tatay niya at hindi ako sinaktan tulad ng mga guwapo riyan… (Ouch.)
•Kris Aquino sa lovelife: I’m praying for an age-appropriate life partner! (Is “attitude-appropriate” not a criterion…?)
•Heart Evangelista ayaw sa politika: I can help even without that kind of power. (Yes, who needs power if you don’t use it in a good way?)
•Nadine Lustre slams Jobert Sucaldito anew: “Sick, tired of boomers treating mental issues like a motherf*cking joke” (Like, being “difficult” isn’t an issue? Tit for tat.)
•Jed Madela now living on “personal savings” due to pandemic… (That’s what’s good about saving for a rainy day…)
•Kinabukasan ng mga empleyado ng mga artista damay sa ABS-CBN shutdown (It goes without saying … But whoever says what’s happening in Congress isn’t harassment is blind as a bat.)
•Ryza Cenon ibinahagi na limang buwan na siyang buntis… (She’s already 32 years old, after all.)
(Yes, Cardo is alive, even without a franchise…)
•Kim Chiu raises money for Covid-19 mass testing from #BawalLumabas merchandise. (She’s putting her money where her mouth is. Kim: 2; bashers: 0)
(Makes sense…)
•Ilang artista tulad nina Lorna Tolentino, Vhong Navarro, Ogie Alcasid, Christopher de Leon, Sid Lucero, at Jolina Magdangal pumayag sa kalahating talent fee para masagip ang ABS-CBN… (As they say, “Ang taong marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan…”)
•Janella Salvador asks Joshua Garcia: Bakit ako ang crush mo? (Can he answer, “Kasi utos ng management…”?)
•Vice Ganda nagmamakaawa na sa Kongreso. (That feels out of character…)
•Wendell Ramos certified bombero na! (These double meanings in show biz can be a wee bit confusing…)
•KC Montero arestado dahil sa pagpa-party! (Shouldn’t that policeman join KC in jail? Makisama naman s’ya…)
•Lock-in taping ng “Love Thy Woman” ng Kapamilya Channel paspasan… (Understandable)
(He doesn’t want a scene…)
(Nothing wrong with diversifying…)
•Jennylyn Mercado ginastusan ang 11 pusa… (Indeed, there’s more to Jen than talent and beauty…)
(Bankruptcy is nothing to laugh about.)
