Jennifer Aniston is appealing to her fans to wear face masks as COVID-19 cases in the United States continue to rise.

“I understand masks are inconvenient and uncomfortable. But don’t you feel that it’s worse that businesses are shutting down… jobs are being lost… health care workers are hitting absolute exhaustion,” the actress said on her Instagram page earlier today, July 1.

“And so many lives have been taken by this virus because we aren’t doing enough,” she added alongside a photo of her wearing a mask.

While Aniston said she believes “in the basic goodness of people,” she pointed out that many people in the US still refuse to “take the necessary steps to flatten the curve, and keep each other safe.”

“People seem worried about their ‘rights being taken away’ by being asked to wear a mask,” she added. “This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of peoples’ lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate”

She then asked her fans to wear mask “if [they] care about human life” and asked them to encourage others to do the same.

Along with Aniston, her “The Morning Show” co-star Reese Witherspoon also stressed the importance of wearing a mask, adding that it is “not a political statement.”

“It means you care about other people’s health and safety,” she stated. “Be KIND, wear a mask!”

According to the Johns Hopkins University, there are over 2.6 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the US as of today. Meanwhile, more than 10.4 million people across the globe have contracted the disease.  /ra
