Angel Locsin’s inspirational program “Iba ‘Yan” continues to touch the hearts of many as it helped two underprivileged students secure their education for the future.
Through the show, the city government of San Pablo, Laguna, bestowed college scholarship grants upon Ahriel Shean Leysa and Diana Aranzado, as seen in an “Iba ‘Yan” segment on YouTube last Sunday, June 28.
The recent episode of the public service program focused on helping students and families of Sitio Baloc, specifically the two students and teacher Robert “Bob” Latag Mitra, whom Locsin regards as a real-life hero.
Mitra is known in the community for his selfless acts to improve the Don Arsenio Escudero Sr. Memorial School and for tirelessly helping his students despite the many challenges the school and Sitio Baloc face.
“Thank you for inspiring us, sir. Kaya po ganito ka-pursigido mag-aral ‘yung mga bata, dahil po ‘yan sa inyo — sa kagandahang loob n’yo po. Maraming salamat po. Isa po kayong bayani,” Locsin said.
(Thank you for inspiring us, sir. You are the reason why these students are studying hard — because of your good deeds. Thank you very much. You are a hero.)
The teacher was brought to tears after Locsin and the city’s budget officer Arthur Almario announced the scholarships and other financial and material aid.
“Hindi ko ine-expect na mayroong scholarship para du’n sa mga bata. Kasi ako po ay isa ring scholar noong ako ay nag-aaral noong college na nagkaroon ng magandang kinabukasan nang dahil din sa tulong ng mga donor,” Mitra said.
“Kaya ako po lubos din ang kagalakan ko bilang ikalawang magulang, ikalawang tatay ng mga bata.”
(I did not expect that the children will be given scholarships. I was actually a scholar as well when I was still in college and I was given a good future because of donors. That is why I am very happy as the children’s second father.)
Locsin, recognized among Forbes Asia’s “Heroes of Philanthropy“, has also drawn praises from citizens and fellow celebrities alike for her continuous efforts to help those in need amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
For one, Locsin and Anne Curtis’ “Shop & Share” project has recently started distributing the first batch of COVID-19 test kits to help stranded Filipinos get tested. NVG
