National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab and members of the 1990s group Smokey Mountains are set to reunite once again for an online fundraising concert via Facebook Live next week.
Their gig will be part of the #Conservatunes online concert series of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, to help out communities in need and for environmental conservation efforts.
“One week from today! Smokey Mountain will have another virtual reunion for the benefit of the @wwf/@wwfphilippines. Tuesday, June 30 from [8 p.m. to 9 p.m.] Philippine time,” Smokey Mountain’s Anna Fegi announced on Instagram yesterday, June 23.
Smokey Mountain was formed by Cayabyab and executive producer Judd Berlin in 1989. The group remained active until 1995.
The group reunited on May 3 also for an online fundraising concert, as part of the “Taumbayan To The Rescue: A Special Bayanihan Musikahan Concert” project.
Fegi posted their performance of a medley of Cayabyab’s “Paraiso” and “A Better World” on her YouTube channel.
Former APO Hiking Society member, Jim Paredes, Cayabyab’s son Toma Cayabyab and local band Brisom were among the many artists who have performed online for WWF Philippines’ Conservatunes project. JB
