Several local artists will be giving a free online public talk to share with fans their take on how to write, create and perform music amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The “Creating in the Time of COVID-19” talk will be held via Google Meet tomorrow, June 19, at 3 p.m., singer-songwriter Nicole Asensio announced on Facebook earlier today, June 18.
Asensio will be joined by veteran rapper Gloc-9, singer-songwriter TJ Monterde, and Jazz Nicolas of the rock band The Itchyworms to complete the panel.
“There is a content creation revolution…. and those of us stuck at home with our instruments and ideas are at the forefront of this new phase….. so let’s talk about it?” Asensio said.
The 33-year-old singer also noted that she is “truly honored to be a part of this prestigious panel” of talented artists, whom she said she “looks up to very much.”
Asensio also quoted music industry expert and lecturer Mony Romana, who said of the event, “The lockdown has made creating music a challenge. How do we get the drive and inspiration to write, create and perform music with everything happening around us?”
Romana remarked that the guest artists “have managed to continue creating despite conditions forced upon them by the pandemic,” of which the experience they will share with the public during the talk.
For one, Gloc-9 collaborated with Raymund Marasigan for the song “Gera Gera”, a song that talks about the struggles of the people during the pandemic.
Nicolas and The Itchyworms have meanwhile released two singles, namely “The Silence” and “Armageddon Blues”, likewise in response to the social, mental and emotional crisis people are facing due to COVID-19
Monterde and fiancée KZ Tandingan recently wrote the song “Tayo Pa Rin Pala“, which was inspired by Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz’s Instagram Live performance last April. JB
