Only in the movies” is a line we often say. But now, the pandemic makes it seem like we are trapped on the set of “Apocalypse 2020.” The global scenario is something that Stephen King could have written and Quentin Tarantino would be at the helm of.

Ironically, watching films, TV series and documentaries serve as an escape from this “movie -like” shocker that we’re experiencing. What a block-, este, health buster it is!

For part two of my “QuaranSine/QuaranFilms series, I asked more celebs about their “Netflix fix.”

FEATURED STORIES

While we impatiently wait for a “happy ending” to this global crisis, let’s binge-watch our blues away.

Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance.” It made a great impact on me because of MJ’s drive and motivation. I really admire that about him. I actually watched the docu not knowing anything about him. I didn’t even know how he looks like.

I was so surprised on how determined and motivated he is as a person. His story serves as an inspiration … that we can achieve our goals no matter what gets in the way and even if many people try to stop us.

“Crash Landing on You” (CLOY). I loved how every character in the series was fully developed. They were not sidekicks who would just pop in and out of a scene from nowhere. They had jobs, and they even showed where they lived. I also loved the authenticity of the small North Korean town that they built.

My daughter Karylle has been a fan of K-drama, and I never fully understood its appeal until I saw CLOY. And now, I’m a certified K-drama addict. Hyun Bin is my imaginary boyfriend, and I even sang the theme song of CLOY and posted it on Instagram. I’m now watching “A World of Married Couple/The World of the Married,” “The King: Eternal Monarch” and “The Legend of the Blue Sea.”

I like Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance.” Many unknown facts were disclosed in the docu—like why Scottie Pippen didn’t play in several important games, or MJ’s take on that issue. I recommend this docu, especially to young people, because it speaks about true perseverance and courage that we need to be able to excel. I also recommend “The 33” and “Extraction.”

I’d have to say “Hollywood.” it’s all about hope, opportunity, struggles, success and equality. It reminds us that we should not judge people by their color or race. I truly believe that the world would be at peace if we respect every other person’s rights.

JOHN ARCILLA

My picks would be “The Frozen World” (from “Our Planet” series), “Untamed Romania, “Chasing Coral” and “Terra.” It’s very timely to watch these documentaries. This Covid-19 pandemic is undeniably a wake-up call to us humans.

We are supposed to be the caretakers of Mother Earth, yet we are the main “sponsors” of its deterioration and extinction. Man’s excessive activities, which contaminate our water, air and the earth itself, are destroying the only home planet we have.

These films are like a review about the things that we already know, but that we consciously or unconsciously chose to neglect. These are the real stories that will reorient us from our power to change the fate of humankind. We need to take our birthright to be the vanguards of the planet, not its destroyer and enemy.
