Xian Lim has spoken up to defend his longtime girlfriend Kim Chiu after the latter got singled out by netizens following ABS-CBN’s online protest held by several stars last Friday, May 8.
With “Kim Chiu” being among the top trending topics in the Philippines on Tuesday, May 12, Lim condemned the hate and insults online, noting that Chiu is “a wonderful human being.”
“Kim does not deserve to be singled out and get all the hate she is getting from people in the internet. She is a smart, empathetic person who deeply cares for all the people around her. She cares so much that it scares me,” Lim stressed on the same day via Instagram.
“We are not perfect. No one is. We have our share of mishaps that shake us down to the ground but we learn and we rise back up again. My love and support goes out to Kim for being a wonderful human being,” he added.
Previously, Chiu’s “classroom analogy,” in which she tried to explain the shutting down of the media giant in a classroom setting, immediately went viral following the Facebook Live session, and has since become a meme.
The actress, however, has laughed it off and also admitted that she herself got confused by her statement.
In the said online protest, Chiu called for compassion and pointed out that ABS-CBN gives ordinary people the chance to become successful, just like how she gained stardom with the help of the network.
Lim noted that Chiu, along with the other celebrities who joined the online protest, had “a whole lot of guts to face millions of people and fight for what you truly believe in,” adding that “most people won’t even have that opportunity in their lifetime.”
‘The world is not perfect’
Lim also lamented how despite the COVID-19 pandemic, “people are throwing hurtful words back and forth hoping that an issue will be resolved through insults, rage, hate, fake news.”
He noted, however, that while he does not have the educational background or know much about the facts behind the issue, he has his “observation on what our society has become.”
“Lastly, tigilan na natin ang paninira sa kapwa dahil hindi ito nakakatulong sa sitwasyon ngayon. Tulungan [na lang] natin ang [isa’t isa] sa kahit anong paraan at tigilan na ang pininisi at paninira kay ganito’t ganyan. Hindi perpekto ang systema. Hindi perpekto ang mundo,” Lim stressed.
“We have little time in our hands,” Lim added. “It’s really a matter of asking yourself how well you want to be remembered when your time is up.” JB
