Hilary Duff reunited with some of her “Lizzie McGuire” co-stars for a virtual table read, years after the show ended in 2004.
The actress, who played the titular character, posted their 44-minute-long video call on her Instagram page earlier today, May 12. Before showing her fellow cast members, Duff first explained how they decided to come together again.
“I got the most amazing phone call last week from Jake Thomas,” she said. “He threw out having a virtual table read of one of our old episodes of ‘Lizzie McGuire,’ and I thought there’s no better way to cure boredom and to provide a little bit of entertainment for everyone who’s stuck at home.”
Thomas portrayed Lizzie’s little brother Matt in the series. The two were also joined by Adam Lamberg (Gordo), Lalaine (Miranda), Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire) and Hallite Todd (Jo McGuire), among others.
Duff also encouraged their fans to donate to various charities such as the Frontline Responders Fund, No Kid Hungry and Baby2Baby to help those in need amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The group had decided to perform a table read of one of the series’ popular episodes titled “Between a Rock and a Bra Place” to mark its 19th anniversary.
The said episode centered on Lizzie and Miranda getting their first bras. Writers Nina and Jeremy Bargiel also joined the call to shed some light on how the episode aired on the family-friendly Disney Channel.
“When the network asked us about this, there were raised eyebrows,” Jeremy recalled. “They were like, ‘You can say the word twice, you can’t ever show one.’ It was definitely something they thought would just go away.”
The virtual reunion comes months after the production of a “Lizzie McGuire” reboot was put on hold earlier this January. /ra
