WATCH: Jodi Sta. Maria sings ‘Blackbird’ in support of ABS-CBN

Jodi Sta. Maria sang The Beatles’ 1968 tune “Blackbird” to show her support for her home network ABS-CBN, days after it was ordered to shut down.

The actress performed the popular song in a three-minute video featuring scenes centering on the broadcasting giant. She posted the clip on her Instagram page last Sunday, May 10.

Among the videos she included were snippets of her fellow celebrities speaking out about their network’s shutdown and some of their personal donation drives amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It also featured photos of Sta. Maria and other Kapamilya artists placing their closed fists on their chests as part of the #LabanKapamilya campaign.

Along with the video, Sta. Maria penned a heartfelt message for her home network and its supporters.

“Andiyan ang [ABS-CBN] sa panahon ng krisis, ng sakuna, sa hirap at ginhawa, katulong at kaagapay ng lahat ng Pilipino,” she said.

(ABS-CBN is there during times of crisis, disasters, hardships and relief, helping and standing with all Filipinos.)

She added that the broadcasting giant aims to serve, give happiness and put a smile on viewers’ faces. Sta. Maria then gave her sentiments on the current situation of her home network.

“Iginigiit nila na may nilabag na batas ang aming tahanan na pinagkukuhaan namin ng kabuhayan, ngunit mga ahensya na mismo ng gobyerno ang nagsabi na walang nilabag na batas ang [ABS-CBN],” she said.

(They are insisting that our home, where we get our livelihood, violated a law but government agencies themselves are saying that ABS-CBN did not violate any law.)

The actress then expressed her sympathy for all of those who lost jobs, sources of happiness, entertainment and news.

“Binalian man nila tayo ng pakpak, hindi natatapos ang laban dito,” Sta. Maria said. “Darating ang bagong umaga at tayo’y lilipad muli. Mas matayog kaysa nang sa huli.”

(While they may have broken our wings, the fight does not end here. A new day will come and we will fly again. Higher than before.)

Sta. Maria entered the entertainment industry by joining the seventh batch of Star Magic artists. She then starred in the 1999 TV teen drama “Tabing Ilog” alongside John Lloyd Cruz and Baron Geisler. The actress is also well known for her role as Maya dela Rosa-Lim in the 2012 TV drama “Be Careful with My Heart” where she starred opposite Richard Yap.  /ra
