Actress Kathryn Bernado expressed how proud she is of her elder sister Kaye, who is currently working as a nurse in the United Kingdom amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Bernardo imparted some of her realizations while in quarantine during her video call interview on the TV morning show “Magandang Buhay.” A portion of the interview was uploaded to ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel last Tuesday, April 28.
Melai Cantiveros, one of the show’s hosts, asked Bernado how the quarantine period has changed the actress, especially with regard to how she treasures her family.
The actress responded that the COVID-19 pandemic renewed her appreciation for life and the little things. Bernardo also emphasized how important it is to stay healthy during these trying times to protect others.
“Grabe yung appreciation ko ngayon sa life,” Bernardo said. “Yung respeto ko sa mga frontliners sa hospitals, yung mga nurses natin, andun yon dati, pero ngayon doble.”
(I have so much more appreciation for life now. My respect for frontliners at hospitals and our nurses, it was there before, but now it is doubled.)
Bernardo also spoke about her sister’s work in UK and emphasized that it was no joke. The actress is the youngest child of Teodoro and Luzviminda Bernardo.
She revealed that during this time, the majority in her family are also separated from one another. Aside from Kaye, her elder brother, Kevin, is also abroad, while her father is in Cabanatuan.
Kathryn assured that she and other family members are constantly updating each other about how they are, through their frequent video calls.
Meanwhile, Cantiveros’ fellow host Jolina Magdangal noted some of Kathryn and her family’s COVID-19 relief efforts and asked why she chose to stay anonymous with her donations.
The actress explained that she was not comfortable with posting her donations because it might be misunderstood by some people.
“Di naman kailangan siguro malaman lahat,” Kathryn said. “So importante, nakarating yung tulong na yon.”
(I think it is not necessary that everything we do should be known. What is important is that we got to help.)
The actress did not elaborate on how and where she has sent help, but she did confirm that she has made some form of donation during her birthday last month.
Kathryn also said she and Daniel Padilla’s mother, who is also one of the show’s hosts, Karla Estrada, have done small contributions to help with the COVID-19 relief efforts. Cha Lino /ra
