The 1990s singing group Smokey Mountain will be reuniting for an online performance on May 3 at 11 p.m. for the benefit of communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The upcoming show is part of the COVID-19 fundraiser “Bayanihan Musikahan” initiated by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab.
Cayabyab, who formed the band, disclosed the reunion on the Bayanihan Musikahan page last Friday, April 24. The announcement came after his own online show which lasted for about an hour.
The National Artist for Music also posted a screenshot of him and the original band members — Tony Lambino, Shar Santos, James Coronel, Jayson Angangan, Geneva Cruz, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Anna Fegi and Chedi Vergara — singing together on his Facebook page named Myran Etorsa.
“Teaser!!!” Cayabyab said. “The Smokey Mountain reunion soooooon!!!”
“Can you guess what word they are singing in this photo?” he added.
The reunion is part of the special “Bayanihan Musikahan” episode in partnership with ABS-CBN. Veteran singers Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera will also be performing on the online show.
Cayabyab launched the said fundraiser on March 18 to help collect donations for those affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to its site, as of April 24, the initiative has raised over P67.7 million for relief efforts. JB
