To maximize their free time during the enhanced community quarantine, actor Dingdong Dantes and TV host Kim Atienza are learning how to play the guitar in their respective homes.

Actress Jodi Sta. Maria, on the other hand, made guitar playing their quarantine family bonding activity.

Narrating his musical background, Dantes revealed that he was a drummer for an amateur rock band back in grade school via his Instagram post yesterday, April 13.

Despite knowing how to play drums, Dantes expressed that he has always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. Dantes said he had already given up on his dream of learning the instrument until he saw Atienza trying to pursue his similar passion.

The “Matanglawin” host stated that he will be using the remainder of his quarantine time to “learn the basics” of playing the guitar, as seen on his Instagram account on April 2. Atienza also thanked his friend, Jerico Salonga Fernando of JB Music Philippines and Fersal Hotels Group, for giving him the instrument as a gift, showing a photo of the Fender guitar fresh off its box.

Yesterday, Dantes also got his hands on a guitar after getting inspired by Atienza’s effort. Dantes narrated that previously, the farthest he has ever gotten in playing the guitar was learning three of its basic chords G, D and A.

“[Kailan] pa ba ako matututo kundi ngayon (When will I learn if not today)?!” he said. “I am grateful to my friend (and grade school classmate) for hooking me up with one of their stocks! Mabuti na lang at may on-line tutorials din (Thank goodness there are also online tutorials) for beginners like me.”

Sta. Maria and her son Thirdy are also passing the time with the help of music. The two played a short guitar cover of Daniel Caesar and H.E.R’s “Best Part”, as seen on Sta. Maria’s Instagram account today, April 14. The actress also asked her fans what are some of their family’s bonding activities during the quarantine.

“Anak, you’re the best part,” Sta. Maria said, in reference to the song. “It’s moments like these that keep me going especially during this ECQ.”

Sta. Maria also showed off her guitar skills by jamming with her “kuya” and playing the Italian folk song “Bella Ciao”, popularized by the hit TV series “Money Heist”. The actress uploaded the performance via her Instagram account last Friday, April 10.

Dantes and his wife, actress Marian Rivera, have also previously given food to hospital workers in Quezon City, to help with the relief efforts amid the ongoing health crisis. Dantes also advised employees, whose works were affected by the Luzon-wide quarantine, to take online jobs and alternative work from their homes. JB
