MANILA, Philippines — Composer Arnel de Pano was treated to a special song number by the medical team who helped him recover from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Health workers from Marikina Valley Medical Center (MVMC) sang “Lead Me Lord” to De Pano, writer of the gospel iconic song, on April 2, as seen in a video posted by his wife Amy Avena de Pano on April 3.
De Pano sang along with the medical workers who were in full PPE gear as they performed by his side.
MVMC shared the Facebook post on Sunday, April 12, to look back on the special moment.
“Mr. Arnel De Pano was confined at MVMC last March 21, 2020. His fever, difficulty of breathing, and overall feeling of weakness led him to seek medical help and on March 28, his swab test results came back positive,” it said.
“Through the excellent medical care provided by the Isolation Ward nurses of 6B and his team of physicians composed of Dr. Jerome Santos, Dr. Alex Calderon, Dr. Peter Señar and Dr. Gerardo Pura, he continuously improved.”
“Before he was discharged last April 2, Mr. De Pano was sent off by his nurses and Dr. Santos with a song that is close to his heart.”
The song has been popularized by no less than acclaimed singers Basil Valdez and Gary Valenciano.
A choir of doctors also performed the song last March 27 to uplift frontliners.
