In the spirit of bayanihan, an indigenous group in Subic gave some of their fresh fruits and vegetables to actress Megan Young’s initiative of providing meals for frontlines. The produce were to be used as ingredients for hospital workers’ meals in Olongapo.
Actress Megan Young expressed her gratitude to the Aetas of Pastolan Village via her Instagram post yesterday, April 8. The former Miss World also encouraged people to purchase the community’s products.
“The Aetas of Pastolan Village will be selling their produce at QRB Store along Binictican Road, Subic Bay Freeport Zone,” Young said. “If you live in that area or nearby, we hope you can buy produce from them.”
Their harvest includes papaya, saba banana, cassava, avocado, taro and jackfruit. Young also showed some of the community’s fresh produce through a series of photos, together with the meal packs given to hospital workers.
Young’s friend, Chef Diana Frias, was the one who cooked the meals for the doctors and nurses.
Aside from the food drive, Young, together with some of her high school batchmates, also sent out personal protective equipment (PPE) and masks to hospitals in Olongapo and Subic through their initiative #RSHS3COVIDSUPPORTGROUP.
“We have a lot of friends that are doctors and nurses at these hospitals,” Young relayed through her Twitter account on April 4. “We saw an urgent need to bring our frontliners there protective gear.”
In their first run, Young’s team handed out medical equipment to the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, Unihealth-Baypointe Hospital and Medical Center, and James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital.

Young’s initiative is preparing for its second batch of distribution, as seen on her Twitter post yesterday, April 8. The actress also expressed her gratitude to everyone who has been donating to their cause, emphasizing that no amount is too small to give.
“[All] this goes towards our goal which is helping to protect our frontliners in the province,” she said.

The second batch of PPE and mask will be donated to Limay, Bataan’s rural health unit, Mariveles Mental Health Center, San Marcelino Medical Center, and Iba Provincial Health Center, among others.
