As actress Kathryn Bernardo marked her 24th birthday yesterday, March 26, her fans with her loveteam and real-life partner Daniel Padilla channeled the two celebrities’ philanthropic qualities by helping others affected by COVID-19.

KathNiel fans are asking for a P26 donation “for those in need” to celebrate the actress’, as well as Padilla’s birthday in April, “with empathy and compassion.” The initiative “KathNiels Share the Love” has gotten P108,958.22 as of 7 p.m. yesterday, according to a certain @immharvic’s Twitter post.

“Kath @bernardokath and DJ @imdanielpadilla have inspired us in so many ways and helping those in need is one of them,” the fan said. “As they celebrate their birthdays amid this worldwide health crisis, we are celebrating it with empathy and compassion.”

Spokenword poet Juan Miguel Severo, Bernardo’s close friend, revealed that the actress has also been helping others affected by the health crisis, behind the scenes. In his birthday greeting to the actress, Severo retweeted a post by one @dxb_fan showing boxes of donations to hospitals, barangays and other frontline workers crediting Bernardo.

“Ito nakaka-chat ko naman halos araw-araw, walang sinasabi tapos malalaman ko na lang sa iba na kung ano-ano na palang tulong ang pinapaabot?”

(This one, I talk to almost every day, but she does not tell me, and then I just learn from other people, that [she] has been helping others in all sorts of ways?)

Meanwhile, Bernardo celebrated her special day with a daring fashion shoot. The actress sported nothing but a black blazer and black shorts, as seen on her Instagram account.

Bernardo said that during these challenging times, people must appreciate those who are around them and pursue what makes them happy.

“Officially a year older today!” she said. “The past few days have made me realize how precious life is, how we should live life to the fullest and cherish the little moments. Waking up every day is already a blessing in itself.”  /ra
