OPM icon Jim Paredes will perform new songs during his online concert later today, March 24 to help raise funds for the poor and for the frontliners amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The former APO Hiking Society member will go live on Facebook at 4:00 p.m., as per his announcement yesterday, March 23. Paredes’ concert is part of the project called “Bayanihan, Musikahan”.
“It is part of a fundraising effort including many singers and songwriters. Ryan Cayabyab started this to raise funds for our front liners and the most vulnerable sector of our society, the poor,” he noted.
“I will sing songs you know and some you will hear for the first time. Excited ako (I’m excited),” Paredes added.
Cayabyab, National Artist for Music, introduced the “Bayanihan, Musikahan” online concert series on March 18. Several musicians have expressed interest to join the cause while others are already lined up.
Ebe Dancel, Sponge Cola and Karylle, and Top Suzara kicked off the series on March 20. In an interview with Inquirer, Cayabyab said they aim to create a collection of online concerts on the “Bayanihan, Musikahan” Facebook page that fans can freely choose from.
“While you enjoy our performances, we urge you to donate to this worthy cause. You can watch from my page or at Bayanihan Musikahan page. When you watch, pls share. Thanks,” Paredes said.
“Bayanihan, Musikahan” is just one among several other efforts by companies, artists and celebrities to offer the arts and entertainment to the public, as the world scrambles to fight the novel coronavirus.
Other OPM icons such as Dong Abay and Gary Granada have also committed to hold daily classes on human rights, literature and music via Facebook.
Also slated to perform today are Lara Maigue (7 p.m.), Gloc-9 (8:00 p.m.) and Ice Seguerra (9:00 p.m.).
