Coney Reyes can’t be prouder of Vico over Pasig’s coronavirus measures

MANILA, Philippines — Veteran actress Coney Reyes couldn’t help but be a proud mother to her son, Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto, who is leading his city’s fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In an Instagram post on Friday, the veteran actress proudly showed a video of Sotto leading his team in practicing social distancing.

At the latter part of the video, Sotto jokingly sprayed alcohol at the person behind him, an act reminiscent of the slapstick comedy that his father, actor-comedian Vic Sotto, is known for.

“Someone sent me this short video clip of my son. I thank God for his sense of humor (which I’m sure he got from his Papa) amidst all that we are experiencing as a people… as a nation,” Reyes acknowledeged on Instagram.

Reyes also expressed her thanks to the men and women who “tirelessly” work alongside Sotto, and the people who continue to pray for him and his team.

“Bilib ako sa inyo! Maraming Salamat sa walang patid na tulong at suporta! (I believe in you! Thank you so much for the help and support!) God is your ultimate Rewarder!” the actress, a devout born-again Christian, said.

And as a way of spreading positivity about the ongoing crisis, she said, “Mga kapwa Filipino! Stay strong! Konti nalang ito, di ba Lord?! (Fellow Filipinos! Stay strong! This is almost over, right Lord?!)”

The 30-year-old city mayor has been receiving praises, not only from netizens but famed personalities as well, for the local government’s outstanding response to the virus threat.

As of Friday, the Philippines has 217 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 17 have died while eight recovered. In Pasig City, there are 15 confirmed cases of the dreaded disease as of Friday.
