The 2017 film about struggling law students “Bar Boys” has been released online by its makers, in view of the “enhanced community quarantine” enforced in Luzon due to COVID-19.
“Bar Boys” director Kip Oebanda and its producers consented to the film’s release online to help people “with the boredom of staying at home while on community quarantine,” as explained on the movie’s Facebook page today, March 17. The film was released on YouTube, yesterday, March 16.
The movie — which stars Carlo Aquino, Rocco Nacino, Kean Cipriano and Enzo Pineda — depicts the journey of four friends aspiring to become lawyers, along with their struggles through law school and their lives outside a law degree.
President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Luzon will be placed under an “enhanced community quarantine” Monday evening, one day after the implementation of the 30-day quarantine in Metro Manila, as an additional safety measure against COVID-19. This new order takes effect starting today until midnight of April 13. During this period, public transportation services are suspended while strict home quarantine is imposed on all households.
The movie’s production team also encouraged the public to support local films. The hashtag #BarBoys also made its way to Twitter’s Trending Topics, a screengrab of which was uploaded on the film’s Facebook page yesterday.
“Mga tao talaga kapag libre (People do like it when things are for free),” the page jested. “Enjoy your free movie guys. Hopefully this will encourage you to watch local films and stay at home! Stay safe and hopeful!”
The drama-comedy film was an entry for the 2017 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. JB
