Hip-hop star Loonie donated food and other basic necessities to tricycle drivers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has lead the government to impose an “enhanced community quarantine” over Luzon.
Loonie (real name: Marlon Peroramas) urged those who can to also help other daily-wage earners as they are most affected by the quarantine, which has also suspended public transportation.
“Gaano man kahirap ang buhay natin ngayon, kayanin pa rin nating magbigay,” he said through his official Facebook page yesterday, March 16. “Madami ang tumulong at patuloy na tumutulong sakin, kaya gusto ko ibahagi ang pagmamahal nila sa pamamagitan ng pagtulong sa iba.”
(No matter how hard our lives are now, we should still be able to give to others. Many people have helped and are still helping me, so I would like to spread their love by helping others as well.)
Loonie gave away food such as canned goods and instant noodles, among others. He also put sanitary items such as alcohol and surgical masks inside the paper bags, on which he wrote “Kapit Lang!” (just hold on).
In an earlier post, the rapper shared on Facebook the music video of his song with singer Cucay Pagdilao, which is aptly titled “Kapit Lang”, as the novel coronavirus sweeps around the globe.
“Isa ang mga tricycle drivers sa mga daily-wage earners na sobrang apektado ng krisis ngayon. Marami pa ang nangangailangan ng tulong natin. Mag umpisa tayo sa ating sariling komunidad. Kapit lang!” Loonie stressed.
(Tricycle drivers are just some of the daily-wage earners who are hugely affected by the crisis now. There are still lots of people who need our help. Let us start in our own community. Just hold on.)
Under an enhanced community quarantine, “strict home quarantine shall be implemented in all households; transportation shall be suspended; provision for food and essential services shall be regulated, and heightened presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine procedures will be implemented,” as per Malacañang.
As of yesterday, there have been 142 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country while 12 people have died. Three people have meanwhile recovered. Globally, 167,511 people have been infected while 6,606 lives have been claimed. JB
