Actress-singer Geneva Cruz couldn’t help but shed tears when she reunited with ex-husband, KC Montero, on “It’s Showtime,” as she reminisced about their good times together as a married couple spanning 10 years.
The former celebrity couple joined “It’s Showtime” segment “EXpecially For You,” where Cruz thanked Montero for helping her find a new romance, three years after their last meeting.
The show’s hosts have barely began to introduce them when Cruz began crying, fanning her face as if to dry her tears, as their pictures as a couple flashed on screen. Montero can then be seen trying to calm her as he too mimicked her actions of fanning his face while looking at her reassuringly.
Cruz shared that she initially had second thoughts of joining the segment, but seeing him on the show after several years, she said she was happy to have decided to come. “I’m actually happy na ginawa namin ‘to. Medyo nagdalawang isip din ako nung umiyak na ako. But I’m really happy na magkasama kami ngayon ‘cause it’s been awhile,” she said, adding that Montero was a huge part of her past.
Before tying the knot with Montero, Cruz was first married to Paco Arespacochaga, with whom she had a son, Heaven.
When asked what the reason was that led to the end of their 10-year marriage, the actress said that being apart from each other made an impact.
“Looking back, we were better together physically than when we were apart. Dati kasi laging magkasama kami (Montero)… Hindi kami naghihiwalay. Nagkaroon ng problem talaga when I started working here again. We lived in the States; he followed me, and nagkaroon ng problem na nung physically, nagkaroon ng distance,” Cruz said.
Cruz conceded that her pursuit of her career in singing led to the breakup of their marriage as it required her to go back to the Philippines.
For his part, Montero opened about his feelings at the time. “At that time, talagang hiwalay kami. Three months, six months, maybe even longer. At that time, maybe the feelings kind of faded for me, it was hard to communicate,” Montero said.
Regardless of their ending, Cruz said she remained grateful that Montero and even his entire family loved her and her son whole-heartedly when they were together.
After her divorce from Montero, Cruz dated non-showbiz personalities, including Nikolaus Booth and Lee Paulsen, with whom Cruz shared a daughter named London.
Now that she is ready again for a new love, she thanked Montero for teaching her “unconditional love” back then.
The actor also expressed his gratitude for having the chance to share a part of his life with Cruz.
“Maraming salamat sa panahon natin. All of the time and the years that we spent together. I’m a firm believer that your past creates your future. And feeling ko, without the time that we had together, wala akong Stephanie, wala akong Wyatt. Ikaw din, walang London,” he said.
Montero is now married to beauty queen Stephanie Dods. They welcomed a baby boy (Wyatt) one year after their wedding in 2019.
“EXpecially For You” is a segment where a guest or player tries their luck in finding new love with the help of their ex as they choose a potential love interest among the searchees.
