Celebrities are calling for support and donations for the healthcare workers who are risking their lives to aid those in need, amid the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines.
Gary Valenciano appealed to the public to show their support for the medical staff, through his Instagram page yesterday, March 15. He shared a poster announcement encouraging people to applaud the workers for two minutes from their homes at 5 p.m. today, March 16.
The singer said that he would take part in the activity later today. He also asked his fans and followers to share the call for support.
“And if you can… do add a minute or two to pray for them as well,” Valenciano added.
Vina Morales posted the same announcement on her own Instagram page, while thanking the medical professionals, police and military for their work.
As the show of support comes closer, TV host Tim Yap uploaded additional reminders on his Twitter account earlier today.
“How can we help while in isolation/or quarantined at home? Here’s how,” he said, referring to the upcoming event.
Along with the directions asking people to clap from their homes, he included another graphic asking the public to record the applause and upload it on social media. It also reminded them to include the hashtags #frontlinersph so the healthcare workers who are busy at the time may still see the outpour of support.

Meanwhile, Sylvia Sanchez uploaded a call for donations for those working at the Philippine General Hospital. The announcements she shared asked for 70% ethyl alcohol and personal protective equipment such as face masks and surgical gowns for the medical staff.
K Brosas also made the same call through her Instagram page yesterday.
“Baka lang po [may] kilala kayo (You might know someone [who can donate]),” she said. “Salamat (Thank you) po in advance! Be safe.”
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, as of this writing, has reached 140. The Department of Health also stated yesterday that out of those cases, two patients have already recovered from the disease. JB
