Son Ye-jin donates 100M won to COVID-19-hit city in South Korea
MANILA, Philippines — Lead actress of hit South Korean drama “Crash Landing On You” Son Ye-jin gave generous donations to her hometown Daegu, the epicenter of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in South Korea.
Son donated 100 million won or over P4.1 million to the non-profit organization Community Chest of Korea to help contain the virus, a report from Soompi, an English-language news website on Korean pop culture, reported Thursday.
“Daegu is my hometown, where I was born and raised, as well as the place where my parents live now. So it is a particularly special place for me, and the news of [the COVID-19 outbreak] in Daegu was especially heartbreaking for me,” the actress said, as quoted in the report.
“I hope that [my donation] can provide some sort of practical help to lower-income residents who desperately need help now more than ever, as well as an aid in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19,” she added.
South Korea now has the most number of COVID-19 cases outside China with reportedly over 1,500 infections, mostly in Daegu City.
