MANILA, Philippines — South Korean actor and actress Park Seo Joon and Lee Young Ae gave hefty donations to the city of Daegu in South Korea, which was hit by the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), to help combat the disease.

An article from Korean news website Soompi revealed on Saturday that Lee donated 50 million won, which is approximately 41,420 dollars, last Friday, Feb. 21, to “help the citizens of Daegu combat COVID-19.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Feb. 22, actor Park donated 100 million won, which is approximately 82,850 dollars, to aid the COVID-19 stricken city.

This is after learning that Daegu lacked negative pressure rooms and medical equipment to treat cases of the said disease.

“After watching news reports that Daegu does not have enough negative pressure rooms and medical equipment to treat COVID-19 cases, Park Seo Joon donated 100 million won (approximately $82, 850) to help purchase the necessary equipment,” the article quoted the local Community Chest of Korea branch.

As of Saturday, there are 433 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Korea, the bulk of which came from Daegu city.

This prompted the Korean government to designate Daegu as a “special management zone.”
