A Filipino student belting out on a karaoke machine recently has caught the attention of British singer-songwriter Sam Smith and celebrities, namely Nicole Scherzinger and Niall Horan.

Smith shared a video of the boy doing a cover of the pop-soul star’s own hit song “Too Good at Goodbyes” yesterday, Feb. 8, on his social media accounts. He gushed, “WHO IS THIS KID!!!!!? YOU ARE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE WHOEVER YOU ARE.”

The Brit was inundated with replies stating that the boy singing in his school uniform was Carl Malone Montecido, known in singing competitions as the “blind balladeer.”

Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger commented on Smith’s Instagram: “Omg he is EVERYTHING babe!!!”

Meanwhile, Niall Horan expressed awe: “Amazing.”

“I’m a Mess” singer Bebe Rexha simply said, “Goosebumps,” while “Queer Eye” star Tan France went “WOW.”

Montecido hails from Bacolod City and has joined competitions such as “Pilipinas Got Talent” in 2010 and “Tawag ng Tanghalan” in 2017.

The video of Montecido was posted on Facebook last Wednesday, Feb. 5 by one Trixie Madison. It quickly gained over 8.6 million views as of writing.

The student said in a Facebook Live video on Thursday that he was thankful for the positive responses.

He clarified that his classes were already done when he went to the mall to sing. JB
