Veteran actor John Arcilla is calling for volunteers to provide aid to more than 400 dogs displaced by the phreatic or steam-driven eruption of Taal Volcano on Jan. 12.
The “Heneral Luna” actor is looking for people willing to help clean the temporary shelter where the dogs were brought to. Volunteers are also needed for bathing the animals, he announced on Instagram earlier today, Jan. 27.
The shelter, located at Brgy. Tumalim, Sitio Sibukawan, Nasugbu, Batangas, was a personal farm provided by a concerned resident, according to Arcilla.
“Most of the owners are probably unaware that their dog is in the shelter but mostly, there are no signs that they are still interested to claim their fur babies,” he stressed.
Arcilla’s call for help came with a series of photos showing the dogs in the shelter. Some volunteers can be seen giving medical aid to the dogs.
The actor revealed that the “bulk of dogs keep on coming,” making it difficult for the limited number of volunteers to accommodate the animals.
“Some are getting sick and unattended. They are in need of cages,” Arcilla appealed. “We need to classify them according to gender, health condition, age and behavior, they have too limited [staff] since it is just a volunteered shelter.”
The actor said those willing to volunteer can message him on Instagram or the Facebook page of Capable Foundation, which was founded by Arcilla himself.
The alert level on Taal Volcano has been downgraded to Alert Level 3 as of yesterday, Jan. 26, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced. Despite this, Phivolcs noted that the threat of a hazardous eruption is still present. JB
