YouTube star PewDiePie (real name: Felix Kjellberg) has uploaded his last video before he finally takes a well-deserved break from the streaming platform, where he has been regularly posting for the past 10 years.
Kjellberg first expressed his intention to step away from the platform last month, saying that he was feeling “very tired.”
He marked the start of his hiatus with a video titled “It’s been real, but I’m out!” which he posted on his YouTube channel last Wednesday, Jan. 15. But while he will be away from the platform, he stressed that he is not giving up video creation entirely.
The said clip was part of a collection of videos he calls “Last Week I Asked You”. In line with the nature of the series, the vlogger reacts to memes and jokes that his fans made on Reddit. Kjellberg emphasized that these types of videos were his favorite because these are where he gets to interacts with his viewers.
“I can’t believe this. This is so strange,” the vlogger said. “I’m savoring every moment.”
“The truth is I don’t want to go on break. The truth is I love making videos,” he admitted. “I just feel I need to do this.”
Kjellberg thanked his fans for continuously watching his content. On why he is taking a break, he said, “I think this year has been so much pilling up that I think I should just cool down for a bit.”
Last year has indeed been an eventful period for the vlogger: he married his longtime girlfriend Marzia Bisognin, bought a house with her in Japan, then lost their belongings when it was targeted by robbers.
Prior to his break from YouTube, Kjellberg also quit Twitter last month. Upon his exit, he spoke about how “virtue” had been misconstrued on the micro-blogging site.
As the YouTube video ended, Kjellberg explained that he does not know when he will return, but told his fans to “have a good time” and “enjoy [themselves” despite his absence. JB
