Filipino celebrities have been posting tips and offering their prayers following the ashfall and earthquakes caused by Taal Volcano’s phreatic or steam-driven eruption yesterday, Jan. 12.
Actress Anne Curtis emphasized that people should comply with the government’s instructions for the safety of their families and pets, she stated on Instagram earlier today, Jan. 13.
“Praying for all of those who have been affected by the Taal Volcano eruption in the Philippines yesterday,” she said. “Hope everyone living close by were able to evacuate in time.”
“Please take all necessary health precautions as instructed by the LGU’s for [your] and your family’s safety. Stay indoors if you must,” she added.
Curtis’ post also came with health tips during volcanic eruptions given by the World Health Organization, which listed down the health impact of such occurrence: trauma and injuries, skin burns and irritation, gastrointestinal problems, lung problems and eye irritation.
The WHO also listed down necessary precautions the public should observe during volcanic eruptions: follow evacuation procedures; stay indoors unless absolutely necessary; avoid low-lying areas and the areas downwind from the volcano; wear masks that block particles of ash; wear protective eye gear; and make sure the water and food you consume is safe.
Dingdong Dantes also posted necessary precautions during ashfall given by the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Health.
“Also, keep praying po mga kababayan (my countrymen)!” he said on his Instagram account yesterday, Jan. 12.
Other than on provinces near Taal, which include Cavite, Batangas and Laguna, ashfall has also showered on Metro Manila, prompting the cancellation of classes in all levels in the entire CALABARZON region, Metro Manila and Central Luzon.
Bianca Gonzales and Chesca Kramer posted the DOH’s infographic regarding ashfall on their respective Instagram accounts yesterday.
“Stay safe, everyone,” Gonzales said.
“Praying for all of us! Keep safe everyone!” Kramer stressed.
Actress Dimples Romana collected several infographics on what to do during ashfall and posted them on Instagram also yesterday.
“Most important things to remember right now,” she noted. “Please be safe. [I’m] praying right now para sa lahat (for everyone).”
Robi Domingo, Kris Aquino, Vice Ganda and Loisa Andalio meanwhile offered their prayers and asked everyone to do the same amid the catastrophe.
“Be safe. Be aware. Praying for everyone’s security most especially those who are affected,” Domingo said on his Instagram account yesterday.
“Let’s continue praying for all [those] living in the vicinity of Taal,” Aquino said on Twitter earlier today, acknowledging residents, government officials and rescue workers.

Judy Ann Santos and John Prats meanwhile also offered their prayers via Instagram, each citing a psalm from the Bible.
“Pray for Taal,” Pratts meanwhile said.
According to recent reports, Taal Volcano’s phreatic eruption progressed into a magmatic eruption earlier today at 2:49 a.m. to 4:28 a.m.
“This magmatic eruption is characterized by weak lava fountaining accompanied by thunder and flashes of lightning,” the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology stated. JB
