Filipino singer Reymond Sajor described his recent stint in the Indonesian talent search “Golden Memories Asia” as a “rewarding” experience—not only because he made it to the Top 6, but also because he managed to earn the respect and admiration of the local viewers.

“I had a meet and greet with my supporters there and it was really unexpected! They were sweet. And once they like you, they will be loyal to you. It went well and I had a great time with all of them,” he related in an interview. “It was an overwhelming and touching experience, because they were all crying.”

“They wanted me to stay and have a career there,” said the recording artist, who finished ahead of 18 other hopefuls from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Timor Leste. The panel was composed of established Southeast Asian musicians, including Jett Pangan.

Prior to Golden Memories, Reymond—who’s influenced by Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid and Ariel Rivera—was hailed Grand Champion Vocalist of the World in the 2007 World Championships of Performing Arts in the United States. He was also a finalist in the reality-based singing competition “Philippine Idol.”

Joining contests were instructive, Reymond said, and helped him maintain a positive outlook. ‍

“Forget the past so that new and great things will come to you. I also learned that it’s good to lift everything up to God—but don’t ever forget to do your part,” he pointed out. “You have to do your best all the time and value all the people who are supporting you.”

Reymond, who’s also part of the vocal group 5th Gen, has just released a single, titled “Road Trip” under Ivory Music. “It’s really pop-[sounding]; a new type of music for me,” he said, adding that he dreams of collaborating with Regine Velasquez, Gary Valenciano, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda and Gloc-9. —ALLAN POLICARPIO
