Joaquin Phoenix to wear one tuxedo to awards shows this year to reduce waste

Joaquin Phoenix has chosen to wear the same tuxedo throughout this year’s awards season to help reduce waste.

British designer Stella McCartney revealed the actor’s sustainable decision with a photo of him wearing one of her pieces at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, as seen on her Twitter page last Monday, Jan. 6.

“This man is a winner… wearing custom Stella [McCartney] because he chooses to make choices for the future of the planet and all of its creatures,” the designer said.

The brand also revealed that the star will be wearing the same suit “for the entire award season to reduce waste.”

“I am proud and [honored] to join forces with you Joaquin, keep inspiring and keep shining your light x Stella,” the designer said.

McCartney herself is a lifelong vegetarian, and does not use any leather or fur in her designs, as per her official website.

The designer’s post comes after Phoenix took home a Best Actor award for his performance in “Joker” during the awards show held in California, USA, on Jan. 5.

Phoenix is also an avid supporter of sustainability. During his acceptance speech at the awards show, the actor took the time to speak about various environmental issues, as seen in a video posted by Variety on YouTube on Jan. 5.

The “Joker” star touched on topics such as the Australian wildfires, climate change and veganism. He also appealed to his fellow celebrities to reduce their carbon footprint.

“It’s great to vote, but sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives, and I hope that we can do that,” he said.

“We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs for the awards sometimes or back,” Phoenix appealed. “Please. And I’ll try to do better and I hope you will too.”  /ra
