I don’t feel like it,” said actress Maja Salvador about her being called a TV superstar, adding that she even “auditioned” for the lead role of her latest teleserye, “The Killer Bride.”
“It’s a known fact that I was supposed to work on a different TV show. It was me who asked management if I could do ‘The Killer Bride’ instead,” the actress told reporters recently. “Yes, they keep saying that word, ‘superstar,’ but why don’t I feel like it? I also don’t know how to react to being called as such; although I’m grateful that the work I do is being appreciated.”
The success of “The Killer Bride” came on the heels of the victory of her previous drama series “Wild Flower,” which aired over 250 episodes for a year starting February of 2017.
“Yes, they’re both heavy drama, but the story and depth of characters I portrayed are very different. I’m not picky with my projects. I accept what’s being offered to me especially if it’s something new in terms of concept. I don’t mind doing comedy if that’s the project that my bosses would give me next,” she pointed out.
She said Camilla, her character in “The Killer Bride” is something that she hasn’t portrayed before. “She’s the most challenging character I’ve done so far. I’m required to show different emotions in different levels with Camilla,” she shared with reporters.
Maja cited examples: “Like when it was revealed that Luna (Alexa Ilacad) is my real daughter. I had to show the audience that Camilla was in denial. She couldn’t be completely happy. She couldn’t just accept Luna, even though she has searched for her missing child for a very long time.”
Camilla also felt hurt and regret when she faced Emma (Janella Salvador), especially since she already knew the truth about Luna. “Camilla felt like crying because she treated Emma like her real daughter. In her mind, she was saying, ‘sana ikaw na lang.’ Emma grew up with her,” Maja explained. “It was also different when Camilla would deal with Favio (Mico Raval, Emma’s father) because she never loved him in a romantic way. But Favio and Emma were her family. She wouldn’t have survived without the two of them. She owed them her life.”
Vito (Geoff Eigenmann), meanwhile, is Camilla’s greatest love, Maja pointed out. “A love like that never goes away. But do they still have a chance after all those years of being apart? Camilla has already given up on that love,” Maja added. “I’m also excited about the scenes I’ve made with Joshua (Garcia as Elias). Our connection to each other will soon be revealed.”
Maja was also asked to talk about the connection between Joshua and Janella, who seemed to have gotten along really well while working on the TV series. Maja confirmed this and said the two clicked because they have similar personalities.Janella, meanwhile, is Maja’s niece, “but she’s not allowed to call me Tita!” she said.
Janella said she felt nervous when she first started doing the show. “It helped that Ate Maja was so helpful all throughout. She would always guide me, especially in the most difficult scenes. She was really like a big sister to me. Also, she enjoyed feeding me—that’s my favorite part,” said the younger Salvador.Joshua, meanwhile, said the workshops he attended with Janella helped him feel comfortable around the actress.
“The Killer Bride” airs on weekdays on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida evening timeslot.
