Sharon Cuneta paid tribute to a fan who passed away recently, remembering how she had become a friend of hers.
The Megastar wanted to talk about her fan-turned-friend, a certain Christina Banluta-Suba, earlier, but chose not to since it was almost Christmas, she said in her Instagram post today, Dec. 28.
She also cited the death of another close friend, Tina Isorena, as a reason behind her decision to only speak about Banluta-Suba’s passing today.
Isorena was the sister of Cuneta’s fellow celebrity Agot Isidro, and was one of the singer’s backup vocalists for more than a decade. Cuneta honored Isorena with a separate post on Instagram on Dec. 20.
Cuneta revealed that Banluta-Suba passed away “a couple of days” after Isorena’s death. The singer described her as a “solid Sharonian who had become [her] friend.”
Cuneta first spoke to Banluta-Suba over 20 years ago, after she read one of the letters the latter had written for her.
“One day soon after I read it, I gave her a surprise call,” the singer said. “She refused to believe it was me. She thought one of her friends was pulling a prank on her.”
“So I had to say lots of things to prove it was me,” she recalled. “And I think when she heard me laugh, she finally believed.”
Cuneta said that Banluta-Suba died due to malaria after coming home from Sudan.
She later expressed her gratitude toward her fan-turned-friend for “loving and supporting [her] no matter where in the world [Banluta-Suba] decided to work.”
“Such dangerous places pa. But that was you,” Cuneta said. “You wanted to touch lots of lives and that will always make me proud to have known you.”
“My heart is tired. But I am sure it cannot compare to the pain my friends’ loved ones feel,” she said. “May you rest in peace in God’s arms, dear Chris.” /ra
