Richard Gutierrez couldn’t be more grateful for the blessings in his career, such as his movie “Unbreakable” with Bea Alonzo and Angelica Panganiban, and a forthcoming teleserye also with Alonzo.
However, Gutierrez shared in a recent “Tonight with Boy Abunda” segment, posted online on Nov. 27, that such was not the case about two or three years ago, when he almost left show business to live in a different country.
The revelation came after Abunda asked him if there was ever a point in his life when he wanted to back out or walk away from show business.
Gutierrez said he indeed planned to leave the country to live abroad—something his father, Eddie Gutierrez, did in the past. It is known that the Gutierrez family lived in the United States for years before moving to the Philippines.
“I was about to, you know, live in a different country. Nag plano na ‘ko (I planned) to live in a different country, start a new life, just like… You know, my dad did that,” he said. “My dad walked away and started a different life and I asked myself, maybe I can do the same.”
“What stopped you?” asked Abunda.
As per Gutierrez, he did not pursue his plan because he realized his destiny was in the Philippines.
“Yung destiny ko talaga is to be here, right now, and opportunities came,” said Gutierrez. “I grabbed it and then sunud-sunod na (they just kept coming).” Cody Cepeda /ra
