Gorillaz has recently revealed that the documentary “Reject False Icons” will screen in select theaters for one night only on Dec. 16.
“Reject False Icons” was notably directed by Denholm Hewlett, who is the son of British visual artist and co-creator of Gorillaz Jamie Hewlett.
The documentary will span the three-year period during which Gorillaz recorded and released their back-to-back fifth and sixth studio albums, respectively titled “Humanz” and “The Now Now”.
“Reject False Icons” will also follow the band during their extensive world tour in support of their 2017 “Humanz”, taking fans in an “immersive journey into the world of Gorillaz and its extended family… featuring never-seen footage, where the virtual meets the real.”
The film will also feature appearances from several of the group’s past collaborators, including Vince Staples, Pusha T, Noel Gallagher, De La Soul, Danny Brown, Yasiin Bey and more.
Last August, Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn teased that he would start working on the band’s next studio opus after he finished making an album for rock supergroup The Good, The Bad & The Queen.
The band, which is one of Albarn’s many musical projects, is composed of The Clash bassist Paul Simonon, the Verve guitarist Simon Tong and Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen.
“I have another one as well, but I know I’m not gonna be allowed to even think about recording or putting it out this year. In October, after I play in America, I’ll be starting The Good, The Bad & The Queen again… it’s there. If I get the time, or if anyone wants it, it’s there,” he told Radio FM4 podcast.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen dropped their third album, “Merrie Land”, in November 2018, allowing some lingering doubt about the release of Gorillaz’s next studio effort.
In the meantime, tickets for Gorillaz’s new documentary, “Reject False Icons,” will go on sale on Nov. 27. RGA
