No Grammy nomination for BTS upsets fans, Halsey

MANILA, Philippines — Nominations for the 2020 Grammy awards were announced Wednesday and Korean boy group BTS did not receive a single nod, much to the disappointment of their “Army” fans, as well as singer-songwriter Halsey.

Fans aired their dismay over BTS not getting any nomination, but some still took pride in the group’s accolades in the past year.

“Whether or not BTS receives any nominations, it doesn’t take away from the fact that they’ve accomplished so much and surpassed boundaries not just in the K-pop industry, but the music industry as a whole,” one Twitter user said.

“Not getting a grammy nom[ination] won’t ever change a fact that BTS has broken a lot of barriers and showed what diversity is and authenticity through music. Their impact is legendary. And that’s on that,” another fan pointed out.

Halsey also backed the Korean boy group and said it deserves many nominations, though she was “unsurprised” by the Grammy snub.

She was featured in BTS’ previous title track “Boy With Luv.”

“BTS deserved many nominations. I am however, unsurprised that they weren’t acknowledged. The US is so far behind on the whole movement. The time will come,” Halsey said in a Twitter post.

BTS earned a handful of accomplishments this year, including entering three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart in less than two years, a feat last achieved by legendary British band The Beatles.

The group, composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, also became the first Korean act to spend a year on Billboard 200 with their album “Love Yourself: Answer.”

Last year, BTS appeared at the Grammy Awards for the first time as award presenters and a nominee, a distinction no other Korean acts has achieved.

The group’s  album “Love Yourself: Tear” was nominated for best recording package but its album art designed by Lee Do-hee of HuskyFox lost to St. Vincent’s “Masseduction” created by Willo Perron.
