LOOK: Yasmien Kurdi buys painting to release inmate

Yasmien Kurdi helped set free an inmate from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Tagaytay City by purchasing an artwork created by another convict. 

The actress took to Instagram on Monday, Oct. 14, to share the good news with her fans and followers.

Kurdi noticed that there were many artworks on display at the BJMP while they were taping for an episode of the TV drama “Beautiful Justice” there.

“Yun pala, kapag nakabili ka daw ng isang art piece na gawa ng mga preso, makakalaya ang isang tao dahil may pang piyansa na siya,” she said.

(It turns out, if you buy one art piece which is made by the convicts, one of them will be set free since they will have enough to finance [their bail].)

Kurdi did not pass up on the opportunity to help an inmate, and immediately bought a painting. She purchased a piece created by one Kuya Jason to help fund the bail of Maricris Estrada.

The actress felt happy and close to tears knowing that she would be able to help set an inmate free.

“Makakalaya ka na (You will be set free) Ms. Maricris Estrada,” the actress said.

“Makikita mo na yung mga anak mo sa labas ng kulungan,” she added. “Alagaan mo sila.”

(You will now be able to see your children outside of the prison. Take care of them.)

She expressed her gratitude towards warden Aris Villaester, who accommodated her and her team. Kurdi also thanked the painter behind the artwork and commended him for his beautiful piece.

Kurdi currently stars in “Beautiful Justice” alongside Gabbi Garcia, Derrick Monasterio and Bea Binene. NVG
