Any celebrity knows that making a name for one’s self also means dealing with haters who will find anything to pick on. Melissa Ricks recently faced off with an Instagram troll who made remarks about her weight and being a single mom.

Ricks, an actress who has ventured into vlogging, shared screenshots of how she defended herself against one Instagram user (@nanay4144) who commented on her post on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The commenter said, “Ani ngyari sayo (sic)? Ang taba mo na. Ang laki ng braso mo girl mukha ka ng tita. Ilan na ba anak mo at ganyan na ung katawan mo.”

(What happened to you? You are so fat. Your arm is so big you look like an aunt. How many kids do you have that your body is like that.)

Ricks replied, “If mukha akong (I look like a) tita is that a problem?”

She said she had one child and hoped that the Instagram user had none because the person had “no manners and no [respect]” and was a “bad example.”

As fans defended Ricks, the same commenter called them “plastik” (fake) and said, “ung iba nga kahit isa lang ung anak nila d nila pinapabayaan sarili nila.”

Ricks wrote in her Instagram Stories, “Pinabayaan ang sarili (let go of themselves)? Can some explain to me why this is the way of thinking when someone gains weight?”

In another comment, the actress stressed, “Mom shaming is not OK. Kesa ganyan ang attitude mo towards other women, sana mas nagiging positive at encouraging ka towards others.”

(Rather than that attitude towards other women, hopefully, you will be more positive and encouraging towards others.)

“Looks fade but who u are, will always be there,” she advised.

The same Instagram user previously left some unsolicited advice on a post last September. In the picture, Ricks posed with a man believed to be her boyfriend in Singapore.

“Careful po mam bka maging single mom ka ulit,” said the commenter.

(Careful ma’am you might become a single mom again.)

“I am a single mom. And I am proud,” Ricks replied.

Ricks is mom to 4-year-old Kiera, her child with ex-boyfriend Charles Togezaki. She has been open about her weight loss journey and shares her experiences raising Kiera.  /ra
