Jennylyn Mercado bags lead role in ‘Descendants of the Sun’ remake

MANILA, Philippines – Jennylyn Mercado bagged the lead female character/role in the Philippine remake of the famed Korean teledrama “Descendants of the Sun.”

This was first announced in GMA’s “24 Oras” on Thursday.

Jennylyn will play Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz, a Filipino adaptation of Song Hye-Kyo’s Dr. Kang Mo-yeon character in the original Korean version.

In an Instagram post, she said that she was “super happy” with the development.

“When I heard they started taping already and preparing for the soap, ako din na-curious kung sino nga ang napili para sa role (I got curious too on who was picked for the role),” Jennylyn said.

“When I learned that it was me, I was overwhelmed with gratitude for GMA’s trust and also pressured since I know how big this project is,” she added.

She will star opposite Dingdong Dantes, who last April was picked to play “Big Boss” or Captain Lucas. /gsg
