Actress Antoinette Taus’ passion to save the planet has earned her a designation as the United Nations Environment Programme’s national goodwill ambassador for the Philippines. Taus received the designation at a ceremony on Sept. 26 in Manila.

The UN Environment recognized her efforts in engaging Filipinos to care for Mother Nature. One is through her non-profit CORA, which harnesses the power of volunteers to address issues such as plastic pollution. It also highlights her social enterprise The Sustainable Planet, which benefits indigenous peoples and marginalized communities in the country.

Some of Taus’ projects have included coastal cleanups around the Philippines, from Manila Bay to Boracay.

“When we protect the planet, we are protecting the people that we love. Each action as an individual has the power to create amazing change, but just imagine what we can achieve if we take action together,” the “T.G.I.S.” actress said.

“Antoinette is as passionate a voice for the environment as they come. We are extremely pleased she will be helping us raise the profile of the range of environmental challenges and opportunities facing the Philippines,” said Dechen Tsering, UN Environment Asia and the Pacific Office regional director.

With her designation, Taus will continue to do her work on environmental issues in collaboration with the youth, local communities and media partners.  /ra
