Elisse on her own: I’m scared of going through another ‘ordeal’

While she’s open to “meeting and making friends with new people” Elisse Joson admitted that she’s still not ready for romance, partly because she’s wary of experiencing another heartbreak, after her split-up with McCoy de Leon.

“I feel like it’s hard to be in a relationship… It’s not that I was traumatized, but I got scared of going through a similar ordeal,” said at her recent launch as the new endorser of the Ready 2 White skincare line of beauty brand Cathy Doll.

The 23-year-old Star Magic talent acknowledged, however, that the experiences she and McCoy had shared—good and bad—will be difficult to completely forget. But she’s “healing, slowly but surely.”

“It was hard. It took a long while to move on,” related the actress, who broke up with McCoy, a fellow “Pinoy Big Brother” alum, more than a year ago. “But it’s true what they say. It gets harder by the day. You will eventually reach a point where you no longer find yourself thinking about it 10 times a day … until it no longer crosses your mind,” she said.

Meanwhile, at the sidelines of a recent press conference for her upcoming drama series, “Sandugo,” Elisse revealed to a group of reporters that she and McCoy are not on speaking terms at the moment. But there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood.

McCoy de Leon

“There’s no communication. We saw each other at the ABS-CBN ball. And though we didn’t approach each other … OK naman,” she said.

There are talks that Elisse is currently being wooed by—curiously—Jameson Blake, who’s one of McCoy’s good friends and mates in the dance group #Hashtags. It has also been reported that Jameson supposedly asked for McCoy’s permission to court the actress.

“I don’t think it was about getting permission to court me. It was just a matter of Jameson informing McCoy [about his feelings] out of respect, because they’re in the same group,” she pointed out.

Prodded about the real score between her and Jameson, Elisse insisted that they’re just “good friends” and reiterated that she doesn’t want to rush into another relationship.

“We go out with friends, try to get to know each other better. That’s it for now,” she said. “I just realized that it’s not enough that you like each other. You have to look at all aspects, make sure you’re really compatible.”

The afternoon soap “Sandugo” is one of Elisse’s first acting projects outside of a love team.

“It’s hard, but I’m also enjoying myself. I have been learning a lot and I have a long way to go. But at least I have made that one step toward being able to stand on my own,” she said.

The series follows the exploits of fraternal twins JC (Ejay Falcon) and Aris (Aljur Abrenica) “who have been partners through thick and thin as kids.” But a twist of fate separated the two: JC grew up to become an NBI agent and Aris, a syndicate leader.

Elisse plays Grace—the two lead characters’ love interest. “This is my first time being part of a show’s main cast. And I’m so grateful for this opportunity. The trust they give me motivates me to work harder,” said Elisse, who’s satisfied with the progress she has been making in her career.

“I don’t compare myself to others,” she added. “I just focus on the blessings I have been getting.”
