Actress-entrepreneur Neri Naig asserted that individuals can be successful on their own without necessarily being dependent on spouses. She also cleared up that she does not ask her husband, musician Chito Miranda, for money for her businesses or for pleasure.
Naig first posed a question before her fans about the tendency of some women to question fellow women who become successful. She noted how the success of women tend to be attributed to their spouses who got money.
“Hindi ba pwede na kaya mo ring mag invest, mag negosyo, at tumayo sa sarili mong mga paa dahil nagtrabaho ka talaga at nakapag ipon?” she asked.
(Can you not be capable of investing in business and to stand on your own feet, because you yourself work hard and saved up?)
“Hindi ako binibigyan ng pera ni Chito pang luho o pang negosyo,” Naig said in her Instagram post yesterday, Sept. 21. “Hindi rin naman ako nanghihingi. Sariling pera ko ang napupundar ko.”
(Chito does not give me money for luxury or business. I also do not ask him for money anyway. I raise my own money.)
Naig’s statement comes after sharing an update on her first business venture with the Parokya ni Edgar frontman — a rest house in Alfonso, Cavite — in a separate Instagram post on Friday, Sept. 20.
“Hindi naging madali sa akin lahat lalo pa at wala rin akong naipundar nung nag artista ako,” Naig added in her post yesterday. “Nagsimula lang ako sa P3000, napalago ko siya.”
(Everything was not easy for me especially since I was not able to save anything when I was an artist. I just started with P3,000, I was able to make it grow.)
Naig also admitted that she has been seeing the fruits of her labor only now that she is 36 years old. The actress credits her success to her efforts of selling various products through her various business ventures. Prior to her first investment with Miranda, she has been selling gourmet tuyo (dried fish), sleepwear, jewelry and pastries, among others.
“Yes, laki ako sa hirap pero hindi yun hadlang para umasenso. I embraced it at ginawang inspirasyon para umunlad sa buhay,” Naig said. “At proud ako na hindi ako umaasa sa kung ano ang ibibigay ng asawa ko sa akin.”
(Yes, I grew up in poverty but it was not a hindrance to succeed. I embraced it and made it [an] inspiration to progress in life. And I am proud that I do not depend on what my husband gives me.)
Naig and Miranda tied the knot in December 2014. JB
