The current generation of teens to young adults — or better known as millennials — have to be the most complex, conflicted, and hard to understand people on earth when it comes to their emotions, traits, and thought processes. On the other hand, they are also noted to be intelligent, driven, compassionate, understanding, and hardworking.

Millennials have earned the reputation of being dreamers and achievers; yet, they are also known to be emotionally charged individuals possessing highly volatile temperaments.

Indeed, millennials are truly a breed of their own in many respects.

Now, this brings me to the upcoming movie ‘Ang Henerasyong Sumuko Sa Love’ — a period piece — that will attempt to capture this said generation’s spirit, mindset, and heart. That will be no easy feat. But from what has been revealed with the choice of casting there is high hope that this movie from Regal Entertainment, Inc. will deliver in terms of authenticity, relatability, and realism.

First of all, in terms of acting skills, you got some of the best of this generation of young actors and actresses in their 20’s in the likes of Jerome Ponce, Jane Oineza, and Myrtle Sarrosa. Plus, there are Albie Casino, Tony Labrusca and Regal Baby and newcomer Thia Thomalla who round up the team. The casting choices made for ‘Ang Henerasyong Sumuko Sa Love’ are meant to be diverse in order to convincingly portray the existing stereotypes that predominantly make up the young adults of today.

When I first saw the official trailer of ‘Ang Henerasyong Sumuko Sa Love’ it brought back some dormant memories for me of 90’s teen movies and college movies that came out and I had seen many years ago. This is a good sign that there is something special to this movie. I honestly think it is almost like a prerequisite that every 8 years or so movies that follow this style of presentation, packaging, and formula have to be made in order to thoroughly document what each generation of teens to young adults was like in their time.

I, for one, see the importance of making movies that follow this train of thought. From time to time, I still do watch movies that came out during my pre-teens to my early 20’s and now in my early 30’s. It is a way of revisiting, reliving, and rekindling those years and how the youth at the time lived their lives as seen through their own eyes. It is a window peak into a past time and what distinguishes it from previous eras.

When ‘Ang Henerasyong Sumuko Sa Love’ hits cinemas nationwide next month, beginning Oct. 2, 2019. Millennials should watch this movie because it is their story. It is their turn to see themselves on the big screen.

’Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love’ is produced by Regal Entertainment, Inc.

This movie is directed by Jason Paul Laxamana.
