“I will continue to sing because I love it.”
This was Anne Curtis’ reply to a critic who told her that she should stop singing.
Curtis recently performed at the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City for her “AnneKulit” concert tour and took to Instagram on Aug. 31 to share a clip of her singing “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman.”
“Tonight was a tribute to all the soldiers who have given their heart to serve and protect our people! Sana nag enjoy din po kayo (I hope you also enjoyed)! Till my next visit!” said Curtis. “Maraming Salamat Davao and Maraming Salamat din sa producers ko for bringing me in to make the Davaoeños happy and a great way to end the kadayawan festival!!”
One netizen (@magzymeng) commented on Curtis’ post that she should stop singing, adding that singing is not for her. The netizen’s comment appears to have been deleted as of this writing, although a screenshot of it was shared by the Philippines’ Ultimate Showbiz Hub on Sept. 2.
“You should really stop singing Ann [sic] I mean you’re very good at acting but sorry to say singing is not for you,” the netizen said. “Just being honest.”
Curtis, however, was not fazed.
“I will continue to sing because I love it,” responded Curtis. “I am aware that I am not a singer and in fact the whole country has known this throughout my whole career.”
Curtis added that she never claimed to be a singer and proudly admitted that she is tone deaf, or sintunado. Nevertheless, she said she has improved through the years and that her concerts are for pure entertainment.
“AND the people who buy tickets and attend my concerts go KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT,” she said. They know they aren’t going to hear a beautiful voice but I do promise them a night full of fun and laughter and that’s why I continue to do what I do, because I know I am able to make people happy.”
Curtis also revealed that “AnneKulit” would be her last concert tour, but that this won’t stop her from singing. In the end, she told the netizen to unfollow her instead if he or she is so bothered, or turn off the television whenever she performs to avoid getting stressed.
It is known that Curtis has been taking voice lessons from Kitchie Molina since 2012 to improve her singing. And true to what she told the netizen, she never pretended to be a singer.
