Kris Aquino pays tribute to dad Ninoy
MANILA, Philippines — As the country commemorates Ninoy Aquino Day, the late senator’s youngest daughter Kris Aquino pays her father tribute by reminiscing memories of him.
Kris shared Wednesday a photo of her with sister Ballsy and their parents former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino and former President Corazon Aquino.
The photo was taken a few months before the late senator’s assassination in August 1983, Kris said.
“In loving remembrance of the 1st man who gave me the courage & the wings to BELIEVE in my dreams, together with all my love for the woman who instilled in me the backbone to make sure my childhood wishes became REALITY,” Kris wrote as caption.
“Dad knew how to make people feel special & important. Mom knew how to make us feel protected & encouraged us to be the best versions of ourselves… God blessed me way more than i deserved with the parents who gave me life, and the sons na ngayon naman, ako na ang nagpapalaki,” Kris added.
In a separate Facebook post, Kris shared a photo of the late senator carrying her as a baby.
Kris recalled how his father always believed she would someday become an actress.
“My dad was killed when he was only 50 years old… my mom saw my 1st commercial, 1st tv show, and the 1st movie- all those ‘FIRSTS’ that the man carrying me here ALWAYS said would one day happen,” Kris said.
She continued, “Ang mom pagsasabihan pa sya, ‘dad, don’t get her hopes up.’ But HE would whisper to me ‘beautiful, you’ll be on tv and starring in movies, and signing autographs…’”
In light of this, Kris hopes parents would also encourage and support their children in their dreams just like how her father did.
“Sharing this because if you’re a parent, or planning at some point to be one, PLEASE encourage the dreams of your children and equip them with the discipline and skills to SHINE in what they love doing,” Kris said.
Senator Aquino was assassinated in 1983 at the then Manila International Airport after returning from his exile in the United States. /muf
