Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo went undercover to give a surprise performance at the Manila Light Rail Transit (LRT) Roosevelt station.
Mercado and Trillo disguised themselves as persons with disabilities (PWD) while they sang for passersby at the station, as seen in Mercado’s vlog on YouTube last Thursday, Aug. 8.
The idea to perform undercover came from one of Mercado’s YouTube viewers. The viewer challenged the couple to do a street performance to see if someone would listen to them sing despite hiding their identities.
The couple happily agreed to the challenge. To hide their identities, Mercado wore large sunglasses and wrapped a scarf around her head. Meanwhile, Trillo opted to sport fake facial hair along with a cap and sunglasses.
When they got to the station, they changed places with two PWD artists who appear to perform there regularly. The couple sang a few songs, including Mercado’s “Kahit Sandali” and Donna Cruz’s “Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso”.
Before they ended their performance, the couple removed their disguises. The crowd was obviously surprised, and cheered at the reveal.
The couple performed their rendition of Peter Cetera’s “After All” as their last song, this time without their disguises. As they ended their set at the station, they took the time to thank the two PWD artists — Vivian and Jericho — who agreed to switch places with them for their undercover performance.
Mercado also revealed that all the donations they received went to Vivian and Jericho.
The undercover performance is part of Mercardo’s series of vlogs entitled “Jen Survives” where she undergoes different challenges. Her recent challenges included playing the computer game “Counter-Strike” and teaching a Zumba class. JB
