Actress-comedian Pokwang took to social media and apologized, saying she cannot help all those who message her asking for financial help.
“Sa mga nag d-direct message s’akin at humihingi ng tulong pinansyal para maipagamot ang kanilang mga mahal sa buhay na may sakit, sorry po patawad hindi po lahat kayo ay kaya kong maambunan ng tulong pinansyal,” Pokwang said via Instagram on July 24.
(To all those who send me direct messages asking for financial help for their sick loved ones, I’m sorry, please forgive me. I cannot help all of you financially.)
Pokwang said that although she wants to help all of them, she is also supporting other people and paying for her staff’s salaries.
“Kung kasing yaman lang sana ako ng ilan kong mga kaibigan agad agad po at hindi ko kayo bibiguin,” she said. ” Si padre Pio or saint Pio ang aking nilalapitan para sa inyong mga humihingi ng tulong sakin, pinagdarasal ko po kayo. Yun lamang po ang kaya kong ibigay sorry po.”
(If I were as rich as my other friends, I would help you immediately and not fail you. I come to Saint Padre Pio and pray for all of you asking me for help. That’s all I can give, I’m sorry.)
Meanwhile, one netizen (@mrtsrsr) commented on Pokwang’s post, saying there are charity institutions in the country that people can go to for help.
“May mga charity institutions po tayo sa Pilipinas na pede po natin lapitan…,” the netizen said. “Si miss Poki hindi [naman] po siya super bigtime [kaya] intindihin po natin…” (There are charity institutions in the Philippines that we can go to for help. Miss Poki is not super big time, so let’s try to understand her…)
Pokwang, on her end, replied to the netizen and said she understands why people message her and ask for help.
“[Naranasan] din namin pumila dati sa charity sa gobyerno noong nagkasakit [anak] kong lalaki brain tumor haaaayy hirap talaga (We, too, experienced lining up in a government charity when my son got sick, brain tumor. It’s really hard),” she said.
Pokwang lost her son Shin to brain cancer when he was just 5 years old in 1998. At the time, she was in Abu Dhabi working as a migrant worker and did not have enough money to come home. /ra
