Maya Hawke, who plays the “band geek” Robin in the third season of the smash Netflix series “Stranger Things,” is receiving positive feedback from fans. She continues to gain Instagram followers, numbering over 816,000 at press time (it was 797,000, approximately an hour earlier).

Maya, who posted about the series a few times without saying much about it, portrays the bored but brave employee of an ice cream shop who gets into extraordinary trouble alongside other youngsters. The 21-year-old actress recently got a push from one of her parents—popular film stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

Ethan, on his Instagram page, posted a short promo video of Maya’s character and wrote, “Some of you may have missed her in last year’s BBC production of ‘Little Women.’ Some of you may have missed her work at Juilliard. I know many missed out on numerous high school productions—heck, I even missed a few, and I’m her father. Some of you may know her music, some may not. But ladies and gentleman, get to know Maya Hawke. She’s the real thing.”

Maya’s teen costar Gaten Matarazzo, who shares many scenes with her, replied, “[Maya Hawke] is definitely the real thing!”

“X-Men: Dark Phoenix” star Sophie Turner also responded, “She’s incredible.”

Other actresses chimed in. Laura Linney agreed, “Yes, she is!” So did Carla Gugino: “I concur, and I’m not her father.”

Uma Thurman

In December 2017, mom Uma expressed her support for her daughter in her aforementioned miniseries. In the caption for Maya’s pic, she said, “Congratulations to my beautiful daughter, Maya-Ray Thurman-Hawke, on her debut, playing Jo March in ‘Little Women’ with wit, empathy and truth. The [BBC] is so blessed to have you … you were the first wonder of my life, and may the world open up to you, and the angels keep you safe.” —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
